Methodology

What is ranked

Each spec uses a fixed level 60 preset with empty trinket slots. All chooses its highest measured average among the compared reference sets; Dungeon/crafted selects its compliant gear set. Talents, race, rotation and encounter stay fixed. Each placement links its own saved report. Current trinket and race boards use the dungeon/crafted reference; original alternatives are labelled separately.

Same fight for all

The engine's default encounter: one raid-boss target (level 63, three above the level 60 cap) for two minutes, give or take fifteen seconds, with no movement and no adds. Full raid buffs, debuffs and consumables for each spec, listed on its trinket board. No world buffs, since they don't work in Forever raids.

Bands

Bands are set from the median core spec. S is 20% or more above the median, A is above it, B is within 15% below it and C is further down. The percentage on each card is its share of the top spec's DPS. Bands describe the current reference characters; they aren't confidence intervals. Hybrid builds use the same bands but don't move the median.

Engine build

wowsims Forever at 662195b, simmed Oct 1, 2026, 10,000 iterations per spec. Rankings are re-simmed separately from engine updates, so a spec can sit on an older build for a while.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best DPS spec in WoW Forever?

It's too early to say. WoW Forever is still in beta and our sims are still being refined, so treat every result here as experimental, and don't let it drive big decisions like which class to main yet. For now, Warrior (Arms / Fury) leads the simulated reference-build ranking at 799 DPS, followed by Survival Hunter and Shockadin Paladin. The S band (20% or more above the median spec) is Warrior (Arms / Fury), Survival Hunter, Shockadin Paladin, Arms Warrior. Each spec is one fixed build, so your own talents and gear can land somewhere else.

Is this tier list based on logs or sims?

They're sims, run on the open-source wowsims Forever engine with fixed reference gear, talents and races. No raid logs go into them.

Is the tier list based on beta talents or the BlizzCon demo?

It depends on when each board was simmed. The current engine uses beta client data, including the beta Wrack update, but boards aren't re-simmed automatically when the engine changes. Rows from engine 32502486 still carry preview-era Warlock values. Open a card to see its engine build and date. The Affliction reference build doesn't take Wrack.

Does the preset race show the best race for my spec?

Usually. New presets use the race with the highest measured DPS for their gear, talents and rotation, but older saved boards may use an earlier race, and your own gear or talents can change the order. For the measured gaps, tap a card and follow its compare races link, which also notes the racials the beta doesn't cover yet. The race shown always belongs to the saved result.

Why is my spec lower than the class Discord says?

Both gear pools cover all 29 specs. All uses each preset's strongest measured reference set. Dungeon/crafted uses its compliant set, with the same talents, race and rotation. These are fixed comparison builds, not optimized BiS sets. No spec is hidden when switching gear pools.

How often does the ranking change?

When its board is re-simmed. That happens separately from engine updates, so older results can stay up for a while. Cards on an older snapshot are marked, and opening one shows the engine build and date.

Where are healers?

Healers aren't ranked yet because the engine's healer sims aren't published. Tanks have their own board, ranked by the damage their build does on the same fight. That doesn't tell you anything about threat or survivability.
