Season 2 item levels
Season 2 raised the ceiling by roughly 45 item levels over Season 1. Each raid difficulty drops at the first rank of its track, so a Heroic piece and a fully upgraded Normal piece are closer than the difficulty names suggest.

The Venomous Abyss
Eight bosses on the Coiled Isle, ending on Ula'tek. Five of them drop a set token for one fixed slot. Ula'tek drops the Slumbering Coil Curio, which you redeem for whichever set slot you choose, so its real value is the best of the five rather than an average.

All eight Season 1 dungeons rotate out. Five of the new pool ship with Midnight, and three are returning dungeons rescaled to current item levels.

Patch and season dates
The patch and the season landed a week apart and changed different things. 11 August 2026 brought the class tuning, the Coiled Isle, and Altar of Fangs at Heroic and Mythic 0, so rotations and talent choices changed that day.
18 August 2026 reset gearing. The Venomous Abyss opened, ranked Mythic+ started on the new pool, and Mistcrests replaced Dawncrests.
What you can sim
The loot catalog is on Season 2, so Altar of Fangs and the rest of the Season 2 Mythic+ pool are simmable. Altar of Fangs is the one new dungeon in patch 12.1. It opened at Heroic and Mythic 0 on patch day, where it drops around item level 292.
The Tidebound Grottois simmable too. It is 12.1's Lair, a single-boss instance (Nymrissa Wavecaller) that replaces open world bosses, counts for the raid row of your Great Vault, and drops at the same item levels as the main raid.
The Venomous Abyss is in there as well, so you can droptimize the raid and see which bosses are worth your lockout.
What to sim first
- Re-sim your current character. Class tuning changed your baseline, and the talent build that was best in Season 1 often isn't after a tuning pass.
- Check your stat priority again. Secondary stat weights move with tuning and with new set bonuses. Stat priority by spec.
- Droptimize before you raid. Simming the loot table shows which bosses are worth your lockout, which item level alone won't tell you.
- Re-check trinkets and enchants. A whole new trinket pool came with the raid. Best trinkets by spec and best enchants by spec.
- Plan the whole set. Best in slot by spec lists the top item for every slot, best dungeons to farm says which of the eight keys hold the most of them, and best gems by spec says which gem goes in every socket.
How current the sims are
Every sim runs on SimulationCraft, a volunteer project that updates its class modules once a patch is out, so some specs settle faster than others. The header shows the exact SimulationCraft build and game version MythicSim is running, so you can tell whether a result predates a fix you were waiting on.
Early in a patch, sims are most reliable for comparisons on your own character, like which of two trinkets to wear. Cross-spec comparisons take longer to settle.
WoW Forever (Classic+)
World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard's Classic+, opened its beta on 17 September and launches on 4 November. MythicSim sims it too. The WoW Forever hub covers the talent rework, the new race and class combos, and the Forever sim.
Common questions
When does WoW Midnight Season 2 start?
Season 2 started on 18 August 2026, when The Venomous Abyss, ranked Mythic+, the PvP season and Bountiful Delves unlocked. Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, went live a week earlier on 11 August 2026 with the class changes, the Coiled Isle zone, and Altar of Fangs at Heroic and Mythic 0.
What item level is Mythic raid gear in Season 2?
Mythic drops from The Venomous Abyss start at item level 318 (Myth 1/6) and upgrade to 334 at 6/6 with Myth Mistcrests. Heroic starts at 305, Normal at 292, and Raid Finder at 279.
Can I sim Season 2 gear before the season starts?
Yes. Season 2 is live and its loot tables are switched on, so you can sim them now. Results are only as current as SimulationCraft's class data, so numbers can move for a few days after each patch while its fixes land.
Do Season 1 Voidcores carry into Season 2?
No. Season 1 Ascendant Voidcores converted to gold at the rollover. Season 2 uses Ascendant Venomstones instead, which work on weapons, trinkets and necks.
What is The Tidebound Grotto?
It is patch 12.1's Lair: a single-boss instance (Nymrissa Wavecaller) that replaces open-world bosses. It counts toward the raid row of the Great Vault and its loot drops at the same item levels as The Venomous Abyss, so Normal is 292, Heroic 305 and Mythic 318. There are no tier set tokens in it.
Which Mythic+ dungeons are in Season 2?
The Season 2 pool is Altar of Fangs, Murder Row, Den of Nalorakk, The Blinding Vale, Voidscar Arena, Ruby Life Pools, Kings' Rest, Temple of Sethraliss. The entire Season 1 rotation dropped out.
